We are back with our second monthly instalment of our standout whiskey roundup of Quarantine 2020. This is a monthly review of the standout Irish whiskeys that we have been imbibing on during these crazy COVID-19 lockdown days. As always, stay safe, stay home and drink responsibly.

Month two of working from home has come and gone and the old reliable home bar has become a regular feature in most people’s weekend digital lockins. So this is my monthly locked in review of what I think we should be stocking in those all important home bars.

For the month of April, many whiskeys graced my glassware with their presence and fought for their place at the top of Potstilled’s Whiskey of the Month, Quarantine edition.  Alas there can only be one winner a month, and this month Writers’ Tears Double Oak clinched the top spot.

Writers’ Tears Double Oak is a fantastic blended whiskey that is composed of only malt and pot still whiskey, without the addition of any grain whiskey. First the component whiskeys are matured in ex-bourbon barrels before being married and finished in French Cognac casks, which delivers a whiskey with a great sweet pear drop nose and a palate with stewed apples, zest, and some spices. I had the pleasure of returning to this taoscán more than once and the freshness of the fruits and the balance of the palate clinched the top spot for me this month. This is a very refreshing whiskey, with lots of flavour and leaves you wanting more.
